Wincanton to provide logistics support to Morrisons’ M-Local distribution center in north England

RBR Staff Writer Published 27 June 2013

Supermarket group Morrisons has awarded a contract to supply chain services provider Wincanton to support it in the expansion of M-Local convenience store concept in north England for five years.

Under the contract, Wincanton will support the new 150,000ft² distribution center in Bury, Greater Manchester, which is expected to open in October to service over 100 M-Local stores in north England.

The logistics services provider will support warehouse and transport operations to the M-Local distribution center by replicating its model in Morrisons' first centre in London.

In addition to logistics, Wincanton provided project management services at the London center to bring the infrastructure on stream for the launch date.

The supermarket group opened its first M-Local store in 2011 and plans to expand the chain to 100 stores by the end of 2013.

Wincanton said that its experience at the London center helped in getting the latest contract with Morrisons.

Morrisons development director Jerome Saint-Marc said, "The growing demand for our convenience offering meant it made perfect sense to replicate our success in London with a similar operation in the north."
